Check out “Adopt a Block” on my www.Shenandoahservices page.
I have always had a thing about litter. In fact, I still have the reply Frank Wolf sent me when I wrote to him about this problem when I was only 9 or 10 years old. It just burns me up when my son and I go for a walk just to be confronted with the trash that selfish motorist strew along the roadways! I mean really!
Anyway, we often bring trash bags on our walks but it gets to be daunting and kind of ruins the walk. So we came up with “Adopt a Block” and are both hoping that it will catch on across the country and the world. Please check out the page devoted to “Adopt a Block” and please send in you suggestions or your commitment statements!
Success Means Giving Back
Part of being a success is giving back something to the community that supported you and paving the way for others on the road to success. I think we each must decide what is important to us and use that knowledge in deciding which civic activities we want to perform.
For me preserving the environment, promoting respect and freedom for people and animals and living a simple life are among the priorities.
I recently read a terrific book that articulates what I knew intuitively. The book is entitled:
How Walmart is Destroying America (and the World) and What You can Do About It
I think everyone should read this book. Even if you love the convenience and prices of shopping at Walmart, please read this book. You will be surprised to learn that the prices are not always lower and the price your community pays will not be worth it. I live in a small town and beleave me, shopping at Walmart is convenient but starting today, I am not shopping there any more.
I would love to hear your thoughts. By sending them, you are giving me permission to post them here. I will never share your name or e-mail with anyone so please be honest. Send comments to jeanner@shentel.net.
