In Jack Canfield’s book “The Success Principles”, he urges readers to write down a vision for their life in all areas:
- Recreation and free time
- Financial
- Career
- Physical Fitness and Health
- Relationships
- Personal Goals
- Community Service
Here is my articulation of where I would like to be (Modified 30 MAR 06)
(This exercise asks you to write your goals as if they had already happened. I read it over at least once a day. I have modified the goals to notice how my vision encompasses more then just my life. It includes the whole community.)
I earn over $100,000 a year. I spent over $10,000 on vacation and $20,000 on investments. I have health and dental insurance. I earn $5000 a month by 19 DEC 2006 and $10,000 a month by 31 August 2007.
I live in an old house that is perfectly maintained. (Feb 19, 2008 - 5 PM). There is a large front porch that faces a quiet street (in town). I am walking distance from amenities including a coffee shop and pub and community center (where I enjoy taking classes) (Feb 2008)
My house is filled with original artwork and textiles. I have a fire place. (Feb 19, 2007) The rooms are spacious and perfect for entertaining.
My yard is well maintained. In the back there is a slate patio with beautiful wrought iron furniture. (March 12, 2006) The back is secluded w/ a Labyrinth in the very back. (May 31, 2006) It is quiet and peaceful and has flowers and walkways and a fountain.
When you walk into my house you feel welcome and comfortable. (Now)
I drive a Hybrid car. (July 2007)
I am a nationally syndicated columnist and do a weekly column on subjects that interest me. I am also an occasional actor in movies and on stage. My screenplay, “Jenna’s Little Problem” was selected by Project Greenlight and made into a movie. (Jan 2007)
I have written a book and it becomes a best seller and gets me invited to be a quest Jay Leno’s Show (Feb 19, 2007)
I run several on-line businesses and have changed the way my local community views “business”. I have improved the lives of many by sharing my unconventional approach to work. (Now)
Periodically I travel promoting my books and do lots of interviews. I am a sought after talk show guest for my wit and humor. (March 2006)
Sometimes I help others promote their books and ideas. I have an agent who helps me get my ideas and stories to the right people.(Dec 2005)
I have lots of interesting friends who come by for dinner quite frequently. (Now but I would like to do more entertaining).
Daniel and I camp and hike together. We both like to write on these trips.Oct 8, 2006and beyond)
I have taken up pottery and horseback riding again. (June 1, 2007)
We have been on a walking tour of Scotland (Fall 2007) visited the Greek isles (Summer 2007), and visited Romania (2008).
I am lean a disease-free. At 6’, I weigh less than 168 lbs by Feb 19, 2007. I exercise every day and eat healthy, tasty food. I live to be over 100 years old. I finally love to drink water. My eyesight is good and my teeth are beautiful and pain-free. (Feb 19, 2006) I have sweet smelling breath.
I have an easy guilt-free relationship with my family and see more of Jack. We all enjoy each others company. I have good friends with deep friendships that sustain me. Daniel and I love and respect each other.
I have a man in my life who has goals and dreams that he pursues but also supports my goals and dreams. (Oct 2006) He has a playful quality and wonderful sense of humor. He is comfortable with any company from a janitor to a queen. He loves me and loves Daniel and loves animals. He is tall and lean with sandy hair and looks great in an old pair of jeans.
I am a lifelong learner. I attend seminars, college classes, acting classes and take lessons in anything that interests me. I have attended several Smithsonian classes at oxford.
I take music lessons and travel. I continue to explore for the rest of my life. Sometimes I immerse myself in one area of learning before moving on to something else. I meet all sorts of interesting people in these learning experiences.
I live in Edinburg, VA but own places in DC and in New York. (2010)
Edinburg has become a Mecca for artists and musicians. (June 2008) I have played a role in that. (The Walmart in Woodstock closed down because everyone started using local businesses.) and the small town feel is back.
I spend volunteer time helping troubled teens see new possibilities for their lives. I have become a master goal setter and teach teens how to use these skills to develop their dreams.
There is a community/cultural arts center in Edinburg which is a hubbub of activity and has really given the youth of this community a place to hang out with positive things to do.
There a great bike paths from Harrisonburg to Strasburg and we have become a bicyclists’ vacation destination (June 2009) with cyclists visiting our theaters, shops, wineries and gourmet restaurants that are thriving.
