The Ultimate Hippie VacationHello, Back in October 2005 one millionaire and one self proclaimed hippie decided to board a dirty hippie bus and take a vacation together. This trip has been called “The Ultimate Hippie Vacation.” I was there on behalf of B.K. Haynes (the millionaire). I actually sent him the link for the original eBay auction. I had heard about the Hippie Bus Trip auction from my friend, Mary Embrey, who thought I should buy it. (I spent some time following the Grateful Dead while in college and have the personality that just loves adventure.) Not having any cash, I forwarded the auction to the only person I knew with real money and the kind of adventurous spirit that this trip would require, - B.K. Haynes. It never occurred to me that he would actually go on a “Hippie Vacation” or that he would agree to let me tag along on this long (well no too long) strange trip. Thanks Mr. Haynes!
Brent Meeske and B. K. Haynes (10/4/05) The following pages contain my impressions of the Ultimate Hippie Vacation. I wrote these observations late at night or early morning whenever I could snatch the time alone. As with any adventure, the happenings were unexpected and sometimes disappointing but I would not trade those days for the world. Please follow along and enjoy these adventures at a safe distance!
Cody My Ramblings Before the TripI can not wait for this adventure to begin. We are going to New York next week and then to Arkansas on the 9th or 10th. I will keep you posted here. See you on the bus! Oct 10, 2005 - I really don’t know what to expect but I am ready for adventure! I can’t wait to see how Cody and Mr. Haynes will interact. Will Cody pull one crazy stunt too many and drive Mr. Haynes off the bus? Will Mr. Haynes teach Cody the fundamentals of success and investing in country property? Who knows? But I can not wait to find out. I packed my hacky sac and a special present for Cody. Mr. Haynes has a present for him as well... I will write again tonight after we have met the Lands. See you on the us! Sept 23, 6 PM - Today we finalized the plans to board the bus in Arkansas on Oct 10th, 2005. Mr Haynes in a little apprehensive about having no idea what Cody’s plans are but he’s game. Mr. Haynes will probably stay on the bus and Keith Coffman (Real estate agent in the office) and I will take turns following in a rental car. I will get to be on the bus part of the time. I can’t wait. It feels like a real adventure! Cody agreed to try to head back towards VA but we will have our get-a-way car and American Express card just in case! More later! Sept 23, 2005 - 4 AM I can’t sleep. We still have not worked out all the details of the trip. Mr. Haynes has agreed to at least a week on the bus. I am going but it remains to be seen whether I will be on the bus or following behind in a rental car. I definitely want to ride on the bus but do not want to sleep on the bus. We will see. My son, Daniel, really wants to go but I don’t think that is going to happen. Mr. Haynes and I are really flying blind on this one. I have complete confidence that he will maintain his dignity and humor throughout the trip. I think it will be a blast! Today we will speak with the documentary film maker, Brent Meeske and Sam ,who ran the ebay auction, and try to make some more specific plans. We will probably board the bus on Oct 10th and head for parts unknown. I guess the “leader guy” knows. More Later.
