Keith and I checked into our hotel rooms and were told that they had no internet. They used to last year ...but that changed. We called all hotels within an easy driving distance but there were no internet connections to be had. Mr. Haynes may be on a Hippie Vacation but he still wants to eat well and offered to buy dinner for the whole crew each night. But the restaurant in the hotel closed at 7:30 PM. and did not serve alcohol anymore (A necessary ingredient to a hippie vacation dinner.) Cody announced that he was going to crash on the bus and stumbled off... Hum... So Keith, Brent, Brian (camera guy), Mr. Haynes, and I went in search of a restaurant. The girl at the front desk was very helpful. She told us about several places that were close by and gave Mr. Haynes careful directions. Unfortunately, Keith who was driving, did not have the benefit of the girls’ advice and we got very lost.
I should mention here that the roads are very windey in that part of Missouri and they have very descriptive names such as “A” and “F”. We drove for what seemed like hours until we finally realized that we had turned the wrong direction on leaving the park and needed to back track. We were hungry and thirsty and there in the distance was a bar! Yeah! Buffalo Wings! Beer! Yeah.... Wait... we passed it! What were they doing in the front seat?!? We were starving! Another 5 miles, a restaurant called mom’s something or other. Yeah!... But wait... They kept driving! Brent, Brian, and I are practically crying. The road looks quite deserted. “Please let’s go back” but no, we were on a mission to find the “Office Diner” which was where the manager of the hotel said we would get the best meal (and drinks). I was beginning to wonder if the good folks in Missouri were playing an elaborate joke on the Out of Towners ... when we came upon an unassuming restaurant by the side of the road. They did have drinks and I had a wonderful steak! Yeah!!!!
